WILLOW RUN FARM HISTORY by Eli King

2005: In the Spring of 2005, we moved to the home farm which we are the 3rd generation of the King family farmers. We milked Holstein cows and shipped conventional milk. In the Fall we purchased our herd of grass-fed Jersey cows and switched to 100% grass-fed.

2006: In the Spring of 2006, we started selling our Jersey milk to other direct marketers and sold our Holsteins. In the Fall we played around with making our own cheeses in a small vat.

2007: We fixed up our old chicken house for a cheese room and purchased a walk-in cooler and started producing cheese. In the Fall we started making custom cheeses for other farmers.

2008: We started making ice cream to sell.

2009: We started making potato chips to sell.

2010: We remodelled our cheese house to make it more efficient and easier to clean. In the Spring we also purchased a small flock of sheep to milk. So far we were only selling our products wholesale till in the Fall we started shipping products directly to our own co-ops and direct to farm members.

Our goal for 2011: Growing our own herbs to put into the cheeses and more of our own berries for our home-made ice cream.
